In-Zone Declaration

IN ZONE APPLICANTS ONLY (hostel and out-of-zone applicants continue to page 6)

In order to claim priority right of entry as an in-zone resident, the address given on the enrolment application must be the student's current place of residence. If you currently live at an out-of-zone address but intend to move to an in-zone address before your son's first day of attendance, you must apply as an out-of-zone applicant then - after you have moved into zone - notify the school of your new address and forward this form with the documentation described below.

The Ministry of Education advises that parents should be warned of the possible consequences of attempting to gain unfair priority in enrolment by deliberately giving a false address or by making an in-zone living arrangement which they intend to be only temporary, for example:

  • Renting accommodation in-zone on a short-term basis;
  • Arranging temporary board in-zone with a relative or family friend;
  • Using the in-zone address of a relative or friend as an "address of convenience", with no intention of living there on an on-going basis

Before attendance begins, if the board has reasonable grounds for believing that the given in-zone address will not be a genuine, permanent living arrangement, the board may withdraw any offer of a place it has made.

If the school learns, after attendance has begun, that a student is no longer living in the zone, and has reasonable grounds to believe that a temporary in-zone residence had been used for the purpose of unfairly gaining priority in enrolment, then the board may review the enrolment. Unless the parents can give a satisfactory explanation within ten days, the board may annul the enrolment. This course of action is provided for under Schedule 20 of the Education and Training Act 2020.

It is a requirement that, should the student's place of residence be moved out-of-zone within two years of enrolment, a formal application of continued attendance at the school must be made. Failure to do this may also lead to the enrolment being annulled.

ATTACH THE FOLLOWING TWO DOCUMENTS - To confirm the address given is within the school zone:

A copy of a recent Christchurch City Council rates demand or a tenancy agreement.

A recent original copy of a power account - or additional documentation as may be requested by the Board of Trustees.

Complete this section if you have given an in-zone address as the student's usual place of residence.

I declare that the address I have provided is the usual place of residence for my son during school time and I will advise the school of any subsequent change.
